Jen and Tom attended Katie's BABY SHOWER! Katie is due just after the first of the year and is expecting a bouncing baby girl. We wish her all the best of luck in this new BIG adventure of motherhood. She will be taking a break from teaching and massage therapy for a little while but should be back later in the spring or summer of 2012.

Sue Redfield and Sylvia Edmonds "soloed" on teaching their first "Intro to Canine Massage Class" by themselves. Summer, Pilot, Lexi, and Pepper were the demo dogs for this class and they reported back that not only was it a super-fun class but Sue and Sylvia did a GREAT job teaching! They were doing such a fantastic job that both Pilot and Summer were able to take a nap during the lecture portion of the class! We look forward to utilizing the talents of these amazing women for more classes in the future!

Jen was out at SunNFun RV park giving away free canine and human massage for the Racing Dog Rescue Project picnic along with Sue Redfield, one of the first graduates of our 100 hour Canine Massage Therapy Certification program. This is our third year offering massage for this fabulous event and we met lots of wonderful greyhounds and renewed many friendships. Jen's favorite part is always the "howling" contest! :-)October 15, 2011

Abundant Life Massage once again participated in "Light the Night" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society out at John Ringling Causeway. Katie and Sue Redfield (who came along to do doggie massages) set up and were ready to see clients. Jen, who specializes in Oncology Massage and loves to attend this event, was home sick. :( Unfortunately, this year they didn't allow dogs to participate even though they were at a dog-friendly park and had allowed dogs in the past, so Sue didn't get much canine massage action. Katie, who also loves this event, was super-happy though to get to massage as many people as possible. :)
September 17 and 18, 2011
Abundant Life Massage offered Intro to Canine Massage and Intermediate Canine Massage to several very excited participants! We "broke in" two new demo dogs, miniature Schnauzers named Lucy and Mia, and also had Sue Redfield and Sylvia Edmonds, the first two graduates of our Canine Massage Therapy Certification, join us as teacher assistants. They did a fantastic job introducing the "full body" canine massage to class participants!

Jen and Pilot offered a one hour free class on Canine Massage at Sniglet's Dog Bakery. There were approximately 10 people in attendance with a number of dogs and everyone had a great time learning some basics about Canine Massage Therapy. Thanks to Sniglet's Dog Bakery for inviting us to this fun event in your beautiful facility!

Abundant Life Massage offered another round of Intro to Canine Massage and once again met some wonderful people, in the process, who have a passion for their dogs! Our friends Sunny (a treeing Walker Coonhound) and Mary (a retired seeing-eye dog) both helped out in the hands-on portion of the class. Thanks to Margie and Julie for loaning their super-special dogs to us for the class!
July 21, 2011
Jim and Becky Gabriel from the Gabriel Center for Massage Therapy had asked Jen and Katie to give an hour long class on dog massage at their beautiful massage therapy store in the Gold Tree Plaza at the intersection of Ringling and Tuttle in Sarasota, so we did! There were 8 participants plus 2 dogs who came for this fun and informative presentation.

Jen and Katie offered a free 30 minute Canine Massage demonstration/workshop for puppy-raisers through Southeastern Guide Dogs at Sun 'N Fun Park. Everyone got to palpate their puppies and we knew it was going to be a swell event! :D

Katie and Jen, with our assistant and "recruiter" Julie and her "seeing eye" dog, Patty, offered over 20 "free" canine massages at the Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon in Bradenton. This was the second year in a row that ALM participated in this wonderful event. A great time was truly had by all and lots of very deserving canines received their first canine massage including one sweet lab who refused to get off the table until both sides of him were thoroughly massaged!
February 25-27, 2011
Abundant Life Massage offered its first Canine Massage Therapy Certification: Module 1 workshop! Eight amazing students participated in the weekend's first 25 hours of the 100 hour certification program! They are all planning on becoming certified in Canine Massage Therapy. Topics covered included: Canine Communications, Anatomy and Physiology, Special Populations including Death and Dying, and three different Clinic sessions (including a field trip to ACE Pet Resort) where students were performing dog massage on dogs they had never met before.
January 15-17, 2011
Jen, Katie, and Margie made the 2,700 mile, 50+ hour road trip from Sarasota, FL to
Arcadia, OK to pick up the newest member of the Abundant Life Massage team "Summer" (aka Renaissance Somewhere In Time). Summer is a 9 month old vizsla puppy and she LOVES massage. She is now in doggie-bootcamp training to become our new canine massage therapy demonstration dog since she had never heard of pet massage or dog massage! Pilot, her big brother, thinks she is pretty cool too, so that is a good thing! (It helps that Summer's dad is Pilot's great grandfather so they have fairly similar temperaments.) She is a bit timid at first, but once she gets to know you, she will give you kissies until you cry, "Uncle!" We are confident she will be a big part of our first Canine Massage Therapy Certification class in February, 2011! Note: this class was originally scheduled for January, but based on recent events, it was postponed. There is still time to sign up for this 100 hour certification class!

We are so very devastated to report that Allie-Boo, our 1.5 year old vizsla massage demonstration dog and integral part of Abundant Life Massage, passed away unexpectedly after treatment for suspected prescription drug poisoning. The pills in question were later found intact in the yard, so it now appears she died from side effects of the treatment at the emergency vet's. This has brought us much sadness but we also know she positively touched the lives of so many people and thoroughly enriched ours. She is greatly missed.

A fun time was had by all as Katie and Jen joined Integrative Medicine in front of Good Earth for the Healthy Holidays celebration at "First Friday" in downtown Lakewood Ranch. Several doggies were the lucky recipients of free massage at this festive event. Thanks to our friend Elaine for inviting us to be part of the party!
November 13, 2010
Katie, Jen, and our friend Margie, along with our dogs Pilot, Allie, Duke, Rosie, and Sunny participated in the "Paws for a Pink Cause" walk in Lakewood Ranch. All members of Team Abundant Life Massage had their pink bandanas and were walking to support Breast Cancer research funding. Pilot even won a beautiful, hand-painted picture for winning the "tricks" contest!
